Emulate's tips for relieving dry skin

Bye bye dry skin!

Here are our favorite tips to hydrate, protect and restore a youthful healthy appearance and retain comfortable moisturized skin!

1. Use a hydrating cleanser and wash with warm, not hot water.

Winter's cold dry air can rob the skin of its natural moisture, increasing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dullness.

Your first step is to ditch harsh, foaming cleansers or commercial soaps which can strip skin of natural oils and opt instead for a creamy moisturizing or oil cleanser that delivers emollient oils to your skin. Oil cleansers provide long lasting moisture, delivering healthy oils into your skin.

Good oils to look for: Castor, Moringa, Emu or Apricot.

Avoid Coconut oil or bees wax which sometimes clogs
pores and may cause blackheads
.

2. Switch to a thicker moisturizer.

Lotions tend to contain more water or glycerin which will not provide lasting moisture to the face. Creams and balms are thicker and more effective at trapping moisture. Applying a heavier moisturizer immediately after showering, when your skin is still damp, helps seal in moisture.

The benefit of CBD. Choosing a moisturizer that contains CBD will help retain even more moisture in the cells and stimulate collagen production to rejuvenate your skin.

The benefit of Tallow. Tallow does not contain any water and creates a very protective barrier on the surface of the skin that shields the skin from wind and weather helping to retain moisture. When you look for tallow, look for grass fed and finished because it means the cow was grazed only on grass and usually results in an unscented tallow without odor.

3. Apply a moisturizing product after bathing while your skin is still damp.

When you bathe, if possible, opt for warm not hot water. If you are taking a bath consider adding a bath oil or lotion IN your water to coat your skin for extra moisturizing. Just be sure to wipe the tub free of slippery residue.

After bathing, apply moisturizing lotion, cream, body butter, oil or balm while there is still some water on your skin to retain more moisture.

Tip: Avoid products that contain glycerin as they will pull moisture from your skin causing further dryness. Remember in the winter our homes become dry because of heat - so stick to lotions & cremes that do not contain glycerin or any alcohol.

4. Drink more water!

Hydration happens inside and out. Whether it's water, flavored drinks, coffee or tea, just get the liquid down the hatch!

Although many of us don't want to give up our favorite cup o' Joe, diuretics such as coffee eliminate fluids from the body. So consider trying a healthy substitute like Moringa tea (caffeine-free and offers an energy boost) or green tea. They're great for boosting your immune system during the flu season too.

Electrolyte drinks also help the body to regulate nerve and muscle function, maintain hydration, balance blood pressure, and rebuild damaged tissue.

Easy natural electrolyte recipe: 4 cups of water • 1/8 tsp of salt (any type will work) • 1/4 cup of lemon juice • 1/4 cup of lime juice • 2-4 tbsp of natural sweetener.

5. Use a serum with Hyaluronic Acid.

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural element in the body that declines as we age, but is important for maintaining the skin's elasticity by producing collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. It also helps to retain moisture in the cells which reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines!

Emu oil is a natural source of Hyaluronic Acid, and because it is also a carrier oil - it transports other ingredients faster and more efficiently into the skin's cells. This increases the effectiveness of the serum, and...reduces signs of aging!

Use a serum 3 to 4 times a week if you have sensitive or youthful skin, or nightly for more anti-aging results.
